DO ROAD
Tango Leadaz | Los Angeles | Jamaica/United States
Bakanaldeafrique was brought to my attention by one of the organizers of the event. After explaining to me I agreed to do it immediately as I knew it would be a dope opportunity to meet and share with other black artist. I welcomed the challenge of trying to do something around transportation and dance.
For this project I really wanted to focus on the culture and the dance. Dancehall is a very artistic and expressive culture and I wanted to capture a little piece of the energy and present it through the dance. A lot of the movements in the choreography are transportation like. I used Dancehall dances like Drive Round Dem, Signal Di Plane, Tour Di City and many other dances that relate to different modes of transportation. Dance is used to express emotion and feelings. We are the everyday people. If you look at the movements we are saying something.
This project is about celebration. Celebration through dance which is the vehicle used to transport expressions for so many people. This project represents those expressions. Everyone can dance but not everyone is a dancer. For those that do dance, dance means freedom. When I dance its my world now.
