TRAFFIC. For Every Journey, A New Experience.
Valerie Fab-Uche | Lagos | Nigeria
I live in a town called Surulere and roughly translated it means “patience is key”. I find it amusing everytime how apt this name is and how relevant the virtue is in this area especially commuting within the vicinity. It is near impossible to make it too your destination of interest within 5-15 minutes even if your destination is relatively close to your starting point, even worse on a rainy day and most especially on a Friday; Fridays are dreadful, The roads are good in some areas, bad in some and even non-existent in other parts most especially in June/July, Matter of fact, there are jokes amongst locals that if you want to rent a house, visit the area during the raining seasons. But today it’s not the rain that is my interest but the traffic. Traffic in my city can last for hours, for me personally I love it and hate it. I love that I get to sleep a little longer in the early mornings I leave home by 5:30-6:00 am (to beat traffic) in the bus, I love how I could daydream about dinner or my next life decisions on my supposedly 15 minutes commute from work by 4:30pm and maybe even catch a nap just before we arrive surulere by 5:30-6:00pm, I especially love listening to conversations and public options on the government and their new policies or old friends re connect and new acquaintances form.I do hate that I miss my stop occasionally but I wouldn’t trade my experiences for the world.
